Student Privacy Policy

First, welcome, and thank you for participating in discoverED. Our thoughts on personal information and privacy are simple, direct and will likely align with your own views. We hate pop-up windows, we hate the idea of other people having access to our personal information, we hate invasive advertisements and most of all, we HATE spam e-mail. It would be nice if we could say we can solve your spam problems, which unfortunately we can’t, but we can and do promise to never contribute to it.

Your personal information is your own. It is not ours and it should not be available to those willing to pay for access to it. As such, any information you share with us will always be protected and kept private. To help ensure this, we require that you first register your discoverED account with your school provided e-mail address and that you assign your account an eight character password with a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols. We know … one more lengthy password that you have to create, remember and enter, but remember, this password will help make the difference between a clean, empty inbox and one that is cluttered with e-mails that waste your time, space, and are often down-right gross.

Job Searching Information

The main purpose of discoverED is to help you through college and your eventual job search, so some of your information will be used so that employers can scout out your campus population looking for candidates. However, you have the ability to elect whether or not this information is available. Through your account, you can view what your profile looks like to potential employers so you know exactly what is visible to them. From resumes, to GPA, to tags about your skills and interests, members of the business community can use this information to find interns and employees who are the right fit for certain jobs. By adding this information to your profile, it is visible, but any or all of this information can be left off your profile so that your account is entirely private.

All Other Information Contained Within discoverED

Job searching is not the only thing discoverED has to offer you. We have created a forum, a blog, file storage, grade calculators, and many other features that may cause you to have questions about privacy and security.

Forum and Blog

The forum and blog are both closed circuits that keep all posts and comments contained within your school. They are both com-munal places giving you the means to reach out to fellow students and faculty to ask questions and learn about many different topics. Any posts or comments you make on the forum and blog will be visible to all members of your campus community, but will remain private and unseen to the outside world.

Grade Data and File Storage

You have been provided with tools to assess your grades in current and past courses as well as a place for you to store files acces-sible from any computer with internet access. Since both of these features are for your personal use, they are only available to you under your unique user name and password.

Always remember that your privacy is a great concern of ours. discoverED is a program that will not operate successfully without your participation and we know your participation will be limited if you do not find this to be a comfortable and secure environ-ment.
