Is discoverED right for my school?

The short answer is yes. We talked with experts, scouted the field, and spent thousands of hours making sure that discoverED would be a universal application that didn’t prohibit any type of school or business from being able to participate.

discoverED is a perfect fit for a 2,000 student Liberal Arts College to a 30,000 student University. Technical schools, 2-year schools, 4-years schools, you name it, we’ve got the answer for your career service and on-site job management needs.

What does discoverED cost?

For a limited time, discoverED is being offered to schools for free for one semester. The typical rate is $1 per student, per year for licensing. This includes all hosting costs, maintenance, and upgrades.

Who pays for discoverED?

Each college or university participating in discovere will carry a full-campus contract with us, so that every student with a valid school provided e-mail account with have access to all discoverED services. That is, the institution itself carries the financial cost of discoverED services. Why, you might ask? Well, discoverED not only provides students with job searching tools and resources, but it also provides a host of benefits for the school itself. The largest gain from discoverED can be had by making available and making known the resources of the program to the entire campus and the best way for that to happen is to start with the institution itself.

What about alumni?

Our alumni users are as important as our student users. We know that six months, a year, two years down the road, you may be looking for another job. Or, Perhaps you found an excellent job and would like to tell the students still at your school all about it or the company you work for. No matter what your circumstance, discoverED will be still be available to you. As an alum of a participating school, you can continue using discoverED for up to five years after you graduate, absolutely free.

As you graduate and experience the world of work, we’d love you to come back and tell your old classmates how things are going. You can post in the forum to spread the word, become one of our alumni blog writers, or just send us an e-mail to tell us about your job so that we can spread the word for you.

The more alumni participation we have, the more experience and knowledge we can share with out student users, so please, don’t forget us once you become famous!

What can discoverED do for the school itself?

discoverED is a full service career center management tool that allows you to deal with all types of employment. From managing all on-campus positions, to screening resumes and video interviews so your students can send polished portfolios to employers, discoverED gives you the tools you need to support your students in their career development.

What do I have to install?

Absolutely nothing, ever. discoverED is a web-based application and is simply accessed through any computer that is connected to the internet. This means all of your students can access their accounts from school, home, the road, or anywhere else. As soon as you subscribe to discoverED, we make available an extension of the discoverED domain to your school, and your are set to go. No setup required.

What about updates?

We constantly strive to improve discoverED and all of its features. When we fix a bug, build in a new feature, or improve on an old one, the update is done directly to the application and is instantly available to our entire user community. No downloads, no annoying reminders and no effort required. You can be assured that you are always working on the latest and greatest version. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

Who hosts discoverED?

We do. The cost for hosting is included in the cost of discoverED, so you won’t have to pay extra for it and won’t have to worry about increasing the burden on your current IT infrastructure. It is important that discoverED is hosted in a centralized location so that all schools have access to the entire employer population. Individually hosted sites would increase the effort in making this possible, and as a result, the cost. So, sorry, but at this time you can’t host discoverED yourself.

What about security?

Security was one of the pillars of our design and build process. discoverED deals with sensitive information and we have taken the steps to protect it in the following ways:

1. All accounts require 8 character minimum passwords containing at least one each of the following:

• A capital letter
• A lowercase letter
• A number

2. All employers participating in discoverED are verified on a one-to-one basis, meaning, we don’t allow open and on-your-own enrollment into the program. We screen each employer to ensure quality and legitimacy. We don’t want any scam jobs, work from home positions, or pyramid schemes floating around. We require that all businesses use a valid business e-mail address to sign up, meaning no G-mail, Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, etc. We don’t turn away valid employers, we just screen out everything illegitimate.

3. Only registered employers can post jobs and scout the student population for potential employees.

4. Your students do not have to include any information in their discoverED profile that they do not want to. Participation is entirely voluntary.
